Drugs and Sport
Under the 2009 Victorian Anti-doping policy, no competitor, coach, official or organisation receiving support from the Victorian Government shall engage in doping practice.
The Victorian Government expects that all sporting associations in Victoria, whether or not in receipt of Government support, will adopt anti-doping policies and practices which comply with the
World Anti-Doping code and satisfy the mandatory requirements of Australia’s national anti-doping policies and guidelines issued by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.
Further information on Australia’s anti-doping program and policy can be obtained from
Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.
In 2005 the Victorian Parliament passed new
Sports Anti-Doping legislation which supports the World Anti-Doping Code and reinforces the delivery of the national anti-doping programs in Victoria. The legislation came into force on 12 October 2005.
Under the legislation, the Victorian Government is required to develop and implement a sports anti-doping policy which supports the purpose and intent of the World Anti-Doping Code.
In accordance with the Act, the Victorian Sports Anti-doping Policy 2009 was developed in consultation with Victorian Sports Organisations.
The 2009 version of the policy is effective from 1 January 2009 and replaces the interim Victorian Anti-doping policy 2006 . The 2009 policy will continue to apply to Victorian sport until the policy is either amended or revoked by the Minister. The Minister will consult with any Victorian Sporting organisations the Minister considers appropriate in preparing any future amendments to the Victorian sports anti-doping policy.
