Sport and recreation is firmly embedded in our culture, with research showing that the majority of Victorians either directly participate in or support some form of activity. Sport and Recreation Victoria maximises both the community value of physical activity and the considerable value of the sport and recreation sector to the Victorian economy.

Working with Children Check

The Working with Children Check was introduced in 2006 by the Victorian Government to help protect children under 18 years of age from physical or sexual harm by preventing those who pose a risk to their safety from working with them.

The Working with Children Check is managed by the Department of Justice and will be phased in over two years for the sport sector.

$10.5 Million Boost For Victoria’s Suburban AFL Grounds

Community Facility Funding Program

The 2009-10 Community Facility Funding Program (CFFP) guidelines for councils and community organisations are now open.

The CFFP is designed to help local councils develop new or upgrade existing sport and recreation facilities across Victoria and improve access for the community. The 2009-10 CFFP categories include:

Planning – Grants of up to $30,000 for recreation facility planning or feasibility studies;
Minor Facilities – Grants of up to $60,000 to develop and upgrade community sport and recreation facilities;
Major Facilities – Grants of up to $500,000 for the development of major sport and recreation facilities;
Aquatic Access/Better Pools – Grants of up to $2.5 million to provide quality aquatic leisure facilities; and
Seasonal Pool Renewal – Grants of up to $200,000 to rejuvenate seasonal swimming pools in rural and regional communities, and in the interface Councils.

$350,000 Available to Country Community Sport and Recreation in 2008

The 2008 Country Action Grant Scheme is now open and sport and recreation organisations in rural and regional Victoria can apply for a grant of up to $5,000. To view the guidelines and application forms or apply for the grant visit Grants@DPCD.

Discretionary watering of sports grounds banned under Stages 3 and 4 water restrictions

Stages 3, 3a and 4 water restrictions do not permit the discretionary watering of sports grounds. However, some sport surfaces are exempt under Stage 3 and 3a restrictions and some grounds may be watered in accordance with approved Water Conservation Plans.
