FReeZACentral is aimed at helping young people aged 15 to 25 to establish themselves in the music industry by providing hands-on experience. The program supports young Victorians to gain accredited training, team up with industry mentors and get hands-on experience in all areas of the live music industry.
Over four years of running the program, FReeZACentral will provide more than 2,000 young people aged between 15 and 25 years with free, accredited learning, and over 500 of these will receive mentoring and practical experience working on large scale music industry events. The program offers workshops, mentoring and gigs across Victoria for young people who are serious about becoming a music industry professional.
FReeZACentral is run through a partnership between The Office for Youth, Mushroom Marketing and
The Push, a non-profit youth entertainment organisation. To find out more and get involved visit FReeZACentral.
Workshops
The annual series of FReeZACentral workshops offer young people aged 15 to 25 a place to think, talk and learn about how to establish a career in the music industry. Each workshop provides an introduction to working in the music industry, with advice and information to help young people plan, research and work towards securing the career they are after.
Workshops cover performance, technical, marketing and event management areas of the music industry. They also look at what it takes to put together a large-scale live music event like those in the FReeZACentral Tour.
Professionals working in a range of jobs in the industry give presentations on what is involved in their positions and what career opportunities there are in their sectors. The workshops are run by experienced trainers from Victoria University with support from established industry professionals.
Mentoring
The mentoring program links participants with a music industry professional in their area of interest. Through the program, young people gain an inside perspective on the industry and assistance to plan and build their careers. They also have access to special FReeZACentral master classes and on-line discussions. The young people in the mentoring program put their new skills into practice to help plan and run the FReeZACentral tour.
To be selected to participate in the program, young people must be 18 or over and first attend a FReeZACentral workshop.
Tour
Each year, FReeZACentral heads out to tour across Victoria with a series of all-age gigs led by a major Australian headline act. The tour is planned and managed by young people who have participated in the FReeZACentral mentoring program, with support from professional tour staff and contractors.
The FReeZACentral tour visits venues and festivals in both regional and metro locations. The all-ages events are fully supervised and smoke, drug and alcohol-free.
