On Wednesday 21 April 2010, the Minister for Local Government launched the Local Government in Victoria Report 2009 at the Local Government Ministerial Forum.

The Report provides an overview of local government performance across a range of indicators covering council finance, asset management and community satisfaction.

Local Government Legislation Reform


On 28 July 2010, the Local Government and Planning Legislation Amendment Bill 2010 was presented to the Parliament proposing amendments to the Local Government Act 1989, the City of Melbourne Act 2001 and the Planning and Environment Act 1987. The Bill is available from Linked page opens in a new window www.legislation.vic.gov.au, under "Parliamentary Documents". The summary of the proposed amendments to the Local Government Act (PDF 177 kb) or (Word 177 kb) describes refinements to conflict of interest rules and other changes to support good local government.

Establishing a Victorian Local Government Services Report released


On 24 July 2010, the Minister for Local Government launched the Essential Services Commission's final report on developing and implementing a state-wide performance monitoring framework for local government service delivery. Single Funding Agreements for all Victorian Councils


As part of the shift towards a community investment approach, DPCD in partnership with the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) has developed a new Local Government Authorities (LGA) single funding agreement (SFA) for all Victorian LGAs.

The Minister for Local Government launched two Councils Reforming Business publications - the Councils Reforming Business Progress Report April 2010 (updating on current initiatives) and the Procurement Excellence Program brochure (detailing the latest procurement initiatives).
