Beyond the Bushfires

In this special 75th edition of network we honour the courage, strength and leadership of rural women across Victoria. Since the Black Saturday fires of 2009 many women are rebuilding their homes, lives and communities. Many other women are working and volunteering to help with the recovery.

We hope the stories in network will contribute to the healing process as communities begin the task of rebuilding, and celebrate the ways in which communities and the people of Victoria rallied together.

In this special edition we are also celebrating three decades of the Rural Women’s Network magazine. Thank you to all the women who have contributed to 75 editions of this magazine. As we read in our very first edition, ‘network belongs to the women involved…so it’s up to all of us’. Rural and regional women have a unique and valued voice, so please keep sending us your letters, stories and ideas.

Rural women in challenging times

Rural Victoria is facing challenging times. Our economy and environment, as well as the ongoing issues of drought and climate change, are all contributing to testing times for us, our families and our communities.

Rural women are being stretched in all sorts of ways to meet these challenges.

So how do we cope and move forward in challenging times?

Have you turned the global financial crisis from a challenge to an opportunity? And has it changed the way you live your life? Are you leading change in your community? Are your friendships flourishing or floundering under the pressure of a changing climate? Have you dared to taken the plunge and overcome personal challenges?
