The Office for Disability is guided by the Victorian Government’s commitment to improve the lives of people with a disability and to create accessible and inclusive communities. The Office works in collaboration with people with a disability, the community, the government, non-government and private sectors to achieve its aims.

The Victorian Disability Advisory Council provides advice to the Victorian Minister for Community Services on issues concerning people with disabilities in order to assist the Victorian Government achieve its stated policy objectives as detailed in the Victorian State Disability Plan 2002-2012.

In 2004 the Victorian Government made a commitment to ensure that all Departments will develop and implement a Disability Action Plan (DAP) . Disability action plans are a proactive way for organisations to improve employment opportunities for people with a disability to make their services more accessible for everyone.
