Positive Ageing – A Strategy for Current and Future Senior Victorians
Positive Ageing is a strategy to maximise the quality of life and social recognition of senior Victorians. Seniors play many vital roles in our community, as family members, carers, volunteers, neighbours, workers and consumers. Positive Ageing will strengthen recognition of these roles. In 2004-05 the Victorian Government provided $5.1 million over four years for Positive Ageing initiatives to support current and future seniors. Positive Ageing - Elder Abuse Prevention Consultation Paper
The majority of senior Victorians are healthy, active and lead independent lives. However, there are some in our community who are vulnerable to elder abuse. The Victorian Government is strengthening its approach to elder abuse prevention to address this unacceptable social problem. The aim of this consultation paper is to seek the views of the Victorian community on elder abuse prevention. The paper provides a definition of the complex issue, discusses its prevalence and various risk factors and presents two broad preventive strategies for consideration. Power of Attorney and Guardianship
Being in control of our lives and the decisions we make is important to us all. But sometimes things happen that mean we don’t have quite as much control as we might like. These can be simple, practical problems such as being away on holidays and unable to attend to some financial affairs. However they might be more serious, ongoing problems such as losing the ability to manage our own affairs as a result of a head injury, mental illness or dementia. The law in Victoria gives you a number of ways to help ensure you have maximum control over how decisions are made when you are not in a position to make those decisions yourself. Take Control explains the different arrangements you can make and how to set them up.
